Eh?

Does anyone have any idea who this bloke above is?

Il tell you shall i, its Ledley King. If any of you keep on top of your english football then this guy is supposedly up there with the best of them. I think i have missed the boat wi this guy, i know next to nothing about him but all im hearing is about how important he is to spurs and maybe england. i wouldnt know him if he walked up to me and punched me in the nose

He cant train because if he trains he cant play, he cant play two game in a row cos if he does he wont play again for weeks but he still got picked for england. oh he got sent home from the england camp though because he couldnt train today. Cant really fathom why he got picked if this is all well known facts.

anyway, the point i am wanting to make is that whatever he has i have never seen it, am i really missing out on knowing about the best centre back in world football. i mean the way he is revered on tv papers and radio you would think that this guy is the definition of class.

enlighten me please.

  1. I actually did, though mainly due to the fact he's on my Fantasy Football Euro 2004 dvd (quality dvd by the way). On it he was asked how he found out that he'd been called up to the squad, and it turned out he found out by watching Sky Sports News! Frank Skinner then asked what would have happened if he'd been out or something when it came on SSN, to which he replied (deadly seriously) 'Well I'd have used my Sky Plus, innit'.

He was also the answer to a quiz question I heard recently as to who holds the record for the fastest Premier League goal (had no idea by the way). He scored after 10 seconds against Bradford apparently.

From what I gather he's been playing pretty well when he actually has played, I'm sure he was man of the match against Villa a couple of weeks ago. Still not in the same class as Ferdinand and Terry, in my opinion.

But how many amateur and youth teams operate a 'no train, no play' policy? Surely this man makes a mockery of this idea?

  2. Capello rates him highly apparently, and him coming back has seen Spurs jump up to a mid-table position. Some players just have a bit of class, and make a team all that much better without doing anything special.

Makelele for example. Never really done much, never really got the plaudits, but Chelsea have never replaced him.

We (East Fife) had a player called Matt Dyer. Ran about nuts (got put in an Oxygen tent after a 3-0 cup defeat at Ibrox (Ally McCoist tripped up a linesman and our centre half got an Albertz free kick in the stones and had to miss his honeymoon.)) and apparently never trained, but he was naturally fit. At the age of 28, you aint gonna get better by training, so fair play to him if he can do it 'one out of two'.

Apparently Man U offered Paul McGrath a retirement package because his knee was gone. Went to Villa and played on for two seasons!

Plus, he could always go see Marvin Andrews if he needs cured.

*RANDOM FACT* I live near Marvs church.

  3. It's a fair point about Paul McGrath.Ray Houghton was on TalkSport t'other day talking about how Paul McGrath did next to no training Mon-Fri at Villa, went out on the Saturday and was man of the match. But that was then and this is now.Football is so athletic these days it must be nigh on impossible to get away with that.

Also worth mentioning that King couldn't lace McGrath's boots.
